When crocheting, you first have to have an idea of what to make. There are boundless resources to choose from. So, out of all the characters in movies I’ve seen, why did I choose to crochet Mr. Big? Afterall, Mr. Big doesn’t seem like an obvious choice; he is a just a minor character that appears in the movie Zootopia.

Mr. Big is a shrew that appears in the movie Zootopia

One of the charming things about Mr. Big is that he is a tiny shrew that speaks in a raspy voice and alludes to the movie the Godfather. Something about his character was just hilarious as he talks about a skunk-butt rug and his gran-mama in a Godfathery voice.

In fact, my dad thought is was so funny that he would mimic Mr. Big at the dinner table:

“You disrespected me. You disrespected my gran-mama who I buried in that skunk-butt rug.”

Mr. Big

That was the perfect reason to make this shrew for my father. I got to work crocheting Mr. Big. When I was finished, I was very proud of how detailed he turned out. Mr. Big now sits on the display shelf in my parents’ room.

Mr. Big still remains the most detailed small creature I’ve crocheted. I really went all out on this mouse by giving him a bowtie, vest, fingers, buttons (made out of black safety eyes), flower, and even his emerald ring.

Mr. Big even has fingers and his emerald ring!

I hope this post inspired you to think out of the box when crocheting a present. Because with crochet, anything can go, even an arctic shrew as grisly as Mr. Big.
